This is a copy of the painting by Chris Griffin which was commissioned and funded by the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Lodge of Oakdale Colliery when the pit closed down.
Every miner who was employed at the colliery at the time of closure was presented with a signed print. The NUM also presented a small number of prints to the local schools and organisations and individuals who they wanted to recognise.
