Members of Oakdale Silver Band are, as ever, having a very busy season.
They have just recorded their third CD, which should be released for sale sometime around
the middle of March. Hopefully it will sell as readily as the previous two.
Now they are busy preparing for Band contests and charity concerts, which they enjoy
and are more than happy to do.
However, the highlight of their season will be their Annual Concert scheduled for
the 20th October. Included in their programme on that occasion will be the first
performance of a new piece specially written for them by Oakdale born composer, Brian Moore.
Brian has written a Fanfare and March “Oakdale 2007” to commemorate the centenary
of the founding of the village and in memory of his parents, both born in 1907.
Conductor Ron Probyn and the players are delighted with the piece.
According to Ron, who has had a long career with brass bands and had many memorable
highlights, this is going to be up there with the best. ”To have a work specially
written for us and to have the privilege of giving the first performance (world premiere!)
and written by a local composer is quite something. We’ve been enjoying it in rehearsals
and will do our very best to give it a memorable send off at our concert in October.
I hope a lot of people will come and join us.” Sounds like a date to put in your diary now!
The Band also plans to perform at the Lesser Hall of Oakdale Institute now,
of course, at St. Fagans Folk Museum. That should prove a very nostalgic occasion.
