My Grandfather,Thomas James Townsend born 07 Oct 1899.. Rhiw Sir Dafydd, Mynyddyslwyn, R.D. In case it helps his parents were Thomas Townsend of Lydbrook, Gloucestershire. He was the(Postman) born Abt 1877 and his wife was Elizabeth Jane Carter also born abt 1877, they were married in Bedwelty, Monmouthshire. in abt 1898..Elizabeth re married a Mr Brain after Thomas passed. Known siblings of Thomas were Thomas James, Alice, Gilliam, Morfydd, and Mary?
I lived in The Nailers Arms, Pontllanfraith. My father is buried in New Bethel but I have not been able to find his records. His name was William Elias Jones and he lived at Tynllwyn Farm on Mynyddislwyn mountain. Any info will be gratefully received.
I am trying to find any information on small farms and small coal mines in the Penyfan area around 1800 to 1847, the family I am interested in is DAVID LEWIS and son LEWIS LEWIS, I know they both died about 1836 and the family home and land were sold about 1842-1846 the family then emigrated to America.
I am trying to trace any descendants of my Great Grandparents DAVID and MARY DAVIES who lived on Markham Crescent, Oakdale for many years. DAVID DAVIES was my Great grandmother's second husband her first being a BASSETT. MARY was born in Cwm Dows her father was JAMES NEWMAN who ran a pub there I believe it was called the Dram or dust hole. Two of JAMES NEWMAN'S brothers are remembered on the war memorial that stands near the Oakdale miners' institute which is now in St Fagans folk museum.
Can anybody tell me if the original house of the Penmaen Estate still exists. My wifes family the LEWIS'S lived in Penmaen House at the end of the 19th century. I'm also interested in the Pentwyn Inn if anybody has any information.

Does anyone have any information on LEWIS LEWIS living in Mynyddislwyn with his wife ANNE LEWIS (both from Mynyddislwyn)? ANNE was born in 1823 and LEWIS in 1821. They had 5 children called WILLIAM, EDDIE,LEWIS, BENJAMIN and JANE.

I am researching the names OWEN/OWENS and GRIFFITHS. My grandad was THOMAS OWENS b. 11/4/1876 at Ystradyfodwg and his father also THOMAS was born in 1847 at St. David's Brecon. My grandmother was RUTH GRIFFITHS b. 8/5/1882 and her father JAMES was born in 1844 at Gwenddwr. Both families moved to the Crumlin/Abercarn/Oakdale area at the end of the 19th century.
