  9. I have recently discovered that my mother DOROTHY ELLEN LONGDEN was born at 6 Meadow Street Llanhilleth on 30th December 1908. Her father SAMUEL CHARLES LONGDEN was a journeyman mason, he obviously moved there temporarily with his wife ELLEN CLARA nee HENDY [and at least 5 children] prior to my mothers birth. They returned to the Thornbury area of Gloucestershire a few years later.Any idea why a skilled mason would need to be in the area at that time? In the 30's I believe my mother and father DOROTHY and MARQUIS GRAHAM LIPPIATT visited the Cwmcarn area to see relatives [or friends] taking their baby daughter JOAN - we have a photograph. They would have travelled by motorcycle and side car via the Aust Ferry. Any clues or information would be welcomed. Thank you

  15. Perhaps someone could help with the following: My paternal grandmother KATE MARIAN HUGHES was born in Crumlin, in the then civil parish of Abercarn!, at 26 GLENVIEW TERRACE. In the 1891 census she is listed as 3 years old. In the 1901 census she is listed as 13 years old. This makes her born in 1888 if I am correct! On the 25th of January 1908 giving her age as 21! she married HERBERT HENRY RICHARDSON at: The WESLYAN METHODIST CHAPEL RISCA

My question is: would she have required a birth certificate for this marriage?
My reason for this question is: despite many searches by the many record offices involved with this part of Wales, and the main PRO at Stockport, who carried out a search for me for the years 1886 through to 1888. No record of her birth is forthcoming. Thank you
