Advice
This page is for non-profit clubs, groups, societies and voluntary
organisations ONLY.
General
Any local club or voluntary organisation can have their own page
on this site free of charge, e.g. Pensioners' clubs, Keep fit classes, St John Ambulance,
Cubs, Scouts and Guides, Wine Circle, Choirs, Bands, Youth clubs, Playgroups, Handicrafts, Self defence, Sports clubs, Churches,
Home Start, School PTAs, etc.
I hope that you will take full advantage of this to communicate with your
members, potential members and the rest of the village.
The
minimum information I hope that you will publish is your organisation's
name, a brief description, and contact details.
You know what you want to say, I don't, so I'm not going to restrict the amount
you publish on your page. I'll try to accomodate all your requests but if what you ask
is not possible, I'll tell you and suggest an alternative.
The
page can be changed as often as you want, so that it is always kept up-to-date.
You
can incorporate photographs and logos on your page. Provide me with a good
copy and I will scan the document for you.
Getting
your information live
You
have three options here.
- I take the paper notes that you provide, design your page
around it and publish it on oakdalevillage.net
(Take a look at the
Little Peeps,
Glynderi Bonsai Club, Under 12 Rugby or
Cornerstone Community Church pages to see what I can do for you.)
- You design your own web page and send it to me. I will then
publish it on oakdalevillage.net (My site logo will appear at the top of the page
to aid navigation to the rest of the site.)
-
You provide me with a link to a web site that you maintain on your
ISP.
Each
of these options has their own advantages and disadvantages. The first is probably
the option that most will take and requires no technical skills. The other two
will give you better control of the design of your page but you will need
to have or be able to learn the necessary skills.
Web
Page Basics
What
you should do
-
Make your page simple and easy to read.
-
Include photographs and other graphics where relevant.
- Try to make your page interesting to the general public -
not everyone may be as fascinated by your hobby or interest as you are, and you do want people
to read past the first paragraph.
(TIP : Put the most important information near the top.)
- Incorporate your organisation's logo if possible, to aid recognition.
- Remember that large photographs slow down access to your page, especially for dial-up users.
Make sure that photos are small and that there are not too many of them.
(I'll reduce them in size if necessary.)
What
not to do
-
Do not reproduce copyright material without the
permission of the copyright owner.
- Do not publish names, addresses or telephone numbers of people unless you have
their express permission to do so.
